About Ian Mitchell
After gaining a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration at Liverpool Polytechnic Ian moved to London to pursue a career as a freelance illustrator. After 10 years he moved base to the Midlands. Ian has received commissions from all sectors including editorial, publishing, advertising, design, fashion and retail.
His illustrated maps have featured in many publications such as the Telegraph, Tesco Wine Guide, New York Times and various property literature. Recently was commissioned for the front cover of LA Times, for a travel map. Another map was used in promoting a new BIA in Toronto. One of his travel illustrations was used on the front cover of Oxford University Press catalogue.
Ian’s fashion illustrations were commissioned for Next store and gift cards and also a large in-store graphic for the Bond Street store – a large see-through map of the area. His health and beauty work featured in a weekly column for the Sunday Times.
Ian’s food and drink illustrations have featured in various magazines such as Marks and Spencer, and Waitrose magazines and in various POS graphics and packaging. Maison Blanc commissioned a series of Black and white line images for their website. P&O used a series of his illustrations on their ferries.
His conceptual line and colour illustrations have been commissioned for various financial groups including a large range of concepts for Coventry Building Society.
On occasions his work has been reproduced large; for instance, a series of boutique shop fronts as a backdrop for a French-themed Awards Ceremony for Reed Publishing. Also, a large illustration of London for the Metropolitan Police recruiting bus. His illustrations of shoppers appeared large on advertising hoardings around a shopping Centre in Toronto.
